Housing Solutions Group has been awarded a record amount of funding to build affordable homes in the Royal Borough over the next two years.
The Group, which includes Maidenhead and District Housing Association, has secured grant funding of £5.6 million from the Housing Corporation, the government body that regulates registered social landlords. This is £2 million more than it received in the last funding round and a record for the Group.
Jill Caress, Group Business Development Director for Housing Solutions said: “We are delighted to receive a record amount of funding for the Group. It will help us provide much needed affordable homes in Maidenhead and Wycombe. In both these areas property prices are high and as a result the demand for affordable housing constantly outstrips the supply. So anything we can due to lessen the pressure on affordable housing has to be good news.”
The Group has an ambitious development programme for the next two years and expects to provide more than 260 new homes, 300 bedspaces in four new care homes, as well as accommodation for people with learning disabilities.
The £5.6 grant funding from the housing corporation will be used to help build 130 of these new homes in Maidenhead and Wycombe. More than £4.5 million will go towards building affordable homes to rent, shared ownership homes for key workers and supported housing in Maidenhead. This includes new homes at developments in Moorbridge Road and Sainsbury’s in the town centre.
Just over £1 million will go towards providing homes for rent and shared ownership in Wycombe.
Housing associations and private developers bid for funds from the Housing Corporation every two years. Housing Solutions is a member of RESPOND, a consortium of housing associations that work together to improve the quality and choice of affordable housing in the south east. Its bid for funding to the Housing Corporation was made as part of the RESPOND consortium. The eight housing associations in RESPOND received grant funding totalling more than £41 million.
