The Housing Solutions Group has won a contract to redevelop 23 residential care home sites in Buckinghamshire.
Over the next five years Housing Solutions will build new care homes for the elderly as well as new self contained flats and shared houses for people with learning disabilities, alongside new affordable housing on the sites.
The redevelopment programme, known as Project Care, is in partnership with Bucks County Council and the Fremantle Trust. It is designed to substantially improve the quality of accommodation for elderly people and people with learning disabilities, as well as meet future legislation on care standards.
Housing Solutions is a not for profit organisation specialising in affordable housing. The Fremantle Trust is a registered charity which specialises in providing care for elderly people and people with learning disabilities.
Under Project Care, Housing Solutions has purchased 13 care homes for the elderly and 10 care homes for people with learning disabilities, as well as three former school sites from Bucks County Council.
Eight new care homes for the elderly are to be built. Most of the care homes for people with learning disabilities will be replaced with new self-contained flats and shared houses. On some sites these will be built with a mix of affordable and key worker housing. The Fremantle Trust will provide care in the new properties.
John Petitt, Chief Executive of the Housing Solutions Group said: “Project Care represents an unprecedented business opportunity for Housing Solutions to develop into the care home sector in Buckinghamshire.
“We have just completed a pioneering sheltered housing scheme with facilities to promote health and fitness in Maidenhead, which we believe sets a new standard for sheltered housing in the UK. We expect to bring the same visionary approach to the reprovision of these care homes,” he said.
Work on the first new care home is expected to start later this year. The Group in partnership with Fremantle and Bucks County Council is committed to involving and consulting with residents of the care homes to ensure that their individual needs are met.
