Positive ticks for Housing Solutions
Housing Solutions has been awarded the Positive about Disability accreditation.

Jobcentre Plus awards this to employers who are committed to the employment, retention, training and career development of disabled people.

John Petitt, Housing Solutions Group Chief Executive said: “This award recognises our determination to provide equality of opportunity for all, in everything we do, as an employer and as a housing provider.

“Our equality and diversity policy produces real benefits for us and our customers.   It helps us recruit, retain and motivate the best people, improves our ability to understand and respond to different customer needs and improves our contribution to the communities where we work,” he added.

To receive the award employers have to meet five commitments. These are:
  • to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for a job vacancy and consider them on their abilities;
  • to ensure there is a mechanism in place to discuss, at any time, but at least once a year, with disabled employees what can be done to make sure they can develop and use their abilities;
  • to make every effort when employees become disabled to make sure they stay in employment;
  • to take action to ensure that all employees develop the appropriate level of disability awareness needed to make these commitments work;
  • each year to review the five commitments and what has been achieved, plan ways to improve on them and let employees and Jobcentre Plus know about progress and future plans.
Employers who receive the award display the disability ticks logo on all their recruitment advertising and literature. The Positive about Disability award is reviewed annually when the employer has to demonstrate to Jobcentre Plus what action it has taken to meet the five commitments.
