Work has begun on a multi-million pound project, which will transform the face of residential care across Buckinghamshire.
The first of what will eventually be eight homes setting new standards in residential care will soon begin to take shape at Meadowcroft in Aylesbury.
When it’s finished in a year’s time it will offer state of the art accommodation for nearly 80 elderly people needing residential care and also provide specialist accommodation for elderly people with learning disabilities.
Meadowcroft is the first of 23 sites, which will be, transformed under Project Care, by the Maidenhead-based Housing Solutions Group, a not-for-profit organisation specialising in affordable housing.
Partners in the project are Buckinghamshire County Council and The Fremantle Trust, a registered charity which specialises in providing care for elderly people and people with learning disabilities.
Project Care is designed to substantially improve the quality of accommodation for elderly people and people with learning disabilities, as well as conforming to future legislation on care standards.
Over the next five years, it is expected to provide nearly 600 beds in new residential care homes for the elderly, 30 new one-bed flats and seven new shared houses for people with learning disabilities, as well as 180 new affordable rented, key worker and shared ownership flats.
John Petitt, Chief Executive of the Housing Solutions Group said: “Project Care is all about improving the quality of life for very vulnerable groups of people within society. We are delighted that work is now underway on the first care home and within a year the partners in Project Care will be start to deliver the quality of accommodation and quality of care that these vulnerable groups deserve.”
Note to editors: Housing Solutions will be undertaking all the development work under Project Care.
The Fremantle Trust will provide care at all the Project Care accommodation. Buckinghamshire County Council is the commissioning authority and pays for elderly and learning disabled service within the four district councils in Buckinghamshire.
