Go ahead for affordable housing in Princes Risborough
Housing Solutions has been given the go ahead to build a new development of affordable housing for rent and shared ownership in Princes Risborough.
Wycombe District Council have approved plans to demolish Icknield Court, a 37 bed older persons care home in Princes Risborough and replace it with affordable housing.
The residents of Icknield Court will move into a new residential care home being built in Princess Risborough on the site of the former Berryfields School. Work on this is scheduled to start later this year and the home is expected to be completed at the end of 2008.
Both developments are being built as part of Project Care, a regeneration programme across Buckinghamshire which is designed to improve the quality of accommodation for elderly people and people with learning disabilities, as well as conforming to future legislation on care standards.
Under Project Care Housing Solutions, a not for profit Housing Association, is working in partnership with Buckinghamshire County Council and The Fremantle Trust, a registered charity specialising in providing care for elderly people and people with learning disabilities.
The Project Care Team said: “This is a win, win decision for everyone. The elderly residents of Icknield Court will move to new state of the art accommodation which is being built nearby, and the residents of Princes Risborough get much needed affordable housing. We are delighted with the decision.”
Over the next five years, Project Care is expected to provide nearly 600 beds in new residential care homes for the elderly, 30 new one-bed flats and seven new shared houses for people with learning disabilities, as well as 180 new affordable rented, key worker and shared ownership flats.
